My weekend break in the Lake District: Squirrels and Ducks [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7]

Three weeks later as I sat at my desk writing yet another review, this time on  a better band, Ed walked over, my camera in his hands. I frowned at him. I didn’t even remember him taking the camera.
“That’s my camera, isn’t it?” I asked, pointing towards it.
He nodded. “Yep. I decided to have a little look through where you’ve been. Seems like a nice place.”
“It was.”
“But you should’ve been here.”
“Well yes, I know, and I’ve made up for it. It won’t happen again.”
He put his head to one side. “You know, I’ve shown these photos to the editor of Nature Walks magazine, you know it?”
I shook my head. I wasn’t the type of person to have much interest in wildlife and outdoor activities.
“Well he’s a mate of mine. It’s an up and coming magazine, if you’re interested in that sort of things. He saw the photos and seems quite interested. In fact, he wants you to write an article on your little journey up in Windermere.”
My eyes widened. “You’re joking, aren’t you?”
“No. He wants it done by the end of this week, 2500 words. Including these photos.” Ed passed me a slip of paper with a number written on it. “Call him when you’ve finished it.”
He walked away back to his private office, leaving my camera sitting on my desk. I stared down at the number written on the paper. I had plenty to write about, I decided. Both good and bad, and at least something beneficial would come of my trip.
Back at home in my bedsit, I ignored the noisy radiator and began typing away on my computer the article on the Lake District and its surrounding area and now I’m finished. One last sentence to say about the Lake District and its surrounding area then? Go and enjoy it for yourself and appreciate it. Just mind the manic squirrels and obese ducks.
